Answering My Most Asked Question: What Does ‘Kefi’ Mean?

The Kefi Club (TKC) holds great importance to me, from the starts of its creation, to this point now. I remember after years and years of mentoring and education through Hannah B Photography UK, I wanted something more defined, a space where people could join together to learn and feel good about what they were creating. I had seen the word, ‘Kefi’ while doom scrolling Pinterest (niche self destruction, right?) and it nestled into my brain with a cosy blanket and a hot chocolate and decided to stay put. I obsessed over the word, writing it on the shower door in the spray of water, trying to come up for a way to use it in my business.

It wouldn’t work. Because it needed to have a space of its own.

Photography education and mentorships as a thing in its own right. I tried so many different options in the shower (I’d never been cleaner at this point); Club Kefi, Kefi Corner, The Kefi Education, Kefi Tog, until finally, The Kefi Club. I wrote it in cursive and block until I knew it was the right name for not just my photography education space, but small business coaching, too. Though something inside wanted to reach more people. I’d completed many Power Hours with other businesses, not just photography related ones such as beauticians, musicians, landscapers, real people that wanted to find clarity without sacrificing joy. Brainstorming and working out the kinks and missing puzzle pieces left me feeling energised and ready for more. So, while The Kefi Club primarily focuses on photography courses, mentorships, education and tools (like Lightroom presets for example!), I also feel passionately about reaching small businesses and the folk that run them through coaching and tutorials and tools.

SO, what DOES Kefi mean?

My personal goal for TKC was to not just help others find the joy in their businesses, but to experience it myself. I felt so unbelievably lost in my business for the longest time, feeling like I was walking in circles and dragging my heels and twirling my thumbs because I had the passion, just not the direction. I felt like there were too many things to do and A) not enough time to do them (especially as a parent) and B) feeling overwhelmed by the amount.

I had enough. Enough frustration, enough tears, enough of almost hanging up my camera for good (which would have sucked). The passion was still there, just under the surface (and sometimes very deep down and almost too far to reach it). That was the most frustrating part. I cared so deeply about creating and helping people with their memories, but I didn’t know where to put that energy. There wasn’t a clear path, and nothing out there felt like it was made for someone like me. I didn’t want to burn out (again). I didn’t want to give up. I just wanted support that felt human, real, honest, supportive. So I started creating the space I needed.

Building something that felt organic and real, and that came from a place of love and a desire to create, not just frustration, has been one of the most exciting and joyful projects to date (I know there’s going to be more). The Kefi Club wasn’t born only from burnout or overwhelm. It came from a deep belief that business could feel different. It could be soft, playful, honest, and still powerful. Creating this space reminded me why I started. Not just to make a living, but to make something that actually matters and makes a difference to real people.

Because of this, I feel excited to come to work each day. I enjoy the process of slowly putting one block on top of another, building something meaningful and real. Something that others can connect with and find comfort in. My hope is that through this, people can rediscover their own passion and feel inspired to keep going, even when things get tough. It’s about creating a space where growth feels natural and support is always within reach.
